A 30-year-old Singaporean woman faced 13 charges in a court in the city-state on Tuesday after allegedly failing to pay her Myanmar maid her salary and rest-day pay for almost a year, amounting to S$5,750 (US$4,200).
The court heard that the defendant surnamed Li failed to pay her domestic helper from March 7, 2016, to February 21 this year, The Straits Times reported.

Li has been prohibited from hiring a maid as she allegedly breached the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Manpower on Thursday.
The ministry advised all domestic helpers who do not receive their pay to seek help or intervention promptly by reporting such breaches either to the government or to their employment agency.
The next court hearing for Li is scheduled for September 12.
According to Singapore law, employers who fail to pay their domestic workers may be fined up to S$10,000 and sentenced to up to 12 months in jail.
