Lebanese parliament ends law absolving rapists after marrying victims
(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the Lebanese Parliament had ended a law that free rapists if they marry their victims, after many other Arab countries repealed 'marry your rapist' laws in recent weeks.
A lawmaker who backed ending the law said that other clauses required also change to protect women and children.
And he added: "At the end of the day, this represents a positive development in Lebanon's legislation."
Earlier, Jordan had abolished a similar law this month, Tunisia also passed a law to protect women against violence in July, while Egypt ended this law in 1999, Morocco repealed it in 2014 after a 16-year-old girl committed suicide.
