Afghanistan- Taliban overrun Ghormach district

(MENAFN- Afghanistan Times) AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Taliban militants have taken control of Ghormach district of northwestern Faryab province on Sunday, an official said.

Governor Spokesperson, Javed Baidar confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the fall of Ghormach, saying the district was captured by militants as reinforcement and equipments did not reached on time.

He said security forces in Ghormach district have been under the Taliban siege over the past 22 days—no assistance had been supplied to the security forces despite several request had been made.

However, Nasratullah Jamshidi, Spokesman for the 209th Shaheen Military Crops, strongly rejected Taliban's control over the said district.

He said violent clashes between security forces and the Taliban insurgents were underway around the district center.

The residents of the area during a telephonic conversation with Pajhwok Afghan News have confirmed the fall of Ghormach and said militants captured the district early in the morning.
