Lebanese authorities foil terror plot on mosque in Tripoli


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Aug 11 (KUNA) -- Lebanese security forces foiled Friday a planned terror attack by the so-called Islamic State (IS) that targeted a mosque in Tripoli, northern Lebanon.

Police stopped a Lebanese national before the suspect entered Mansouri Great Mosque, only to find two hand grenades he had hidden inside a small bag, a statement read.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confesseded to his affiliation with the terrorist group, adding that he had planned to throw the grenades amongst worshippers who had gathered inside the mosque to perform late afternoon prayers.

The suspect also admitted to having planned to snatch a gun from one of the policemen on patrol outside the mosque and to open fire on survivors of the eventual blast. (end) wsm.ma -- --
