Amman, Aug 1 (Petra) & & Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi Tuesday discussed with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, the situation in Jerusalem and other regional issues as well as Jordanian-Turkish ties.
The ministers met on the sidelines of an extraordinary meeting of the ministerial Executive Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, which was called for by Turkey to discuss the tensions at the Al Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif.
They said Jerusalem is a central issue and warned that tampering with it would incite Muslims across the world.
Cavusoglu commended efforts exerted by His Majesty King Abdullah, who is the custodian over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, to end tension in the holy city and ensure the respect of the historic and legal status quo of the holy shrines.
The ministers agreed to continue coordination and hold meetings to discuss mechanisms to enhance bilateral relations in various fields.
In a separate meeting, Safadi and Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi discussed the repercussions of the Jerusalem crisis. Marsudi praised Jordan's efforts to safeguard the Jerusalem holy places and stressed Indonesia's keenness on cooperation with the Kingdom in its efforts to protect the historic status quo in Jerusalem.
