Turkey arrests 43 illegal immigrants en route to Greece


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, July 26 (KUNA) -- Turkish authorities have detained 43 Syrian illegal immigrants while trying to cross into Greece illegally, Turkish security sources said Wednesday.

The immigrants, who include 18 men, seven women and 18 children, were taken to the Immigration Department in southwest Turkey, the sources were quoted by Turkey's Anadolu news agency as saying.

Turkish authorities have also arrested two Russian smugglers and sent them to the prosecutor's office for involvement in human trafficking, it added.

Turkey is a crossing point for illegal immigrants to move into Europe via Greek islands off Turkish coasts. (end) rs.mt
