Amman, July 26 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki inaugurated Wednesday an 11-million-dinar project to reuse treated wastewater from a treatment plant south of Amman to cultivate limited crops.
During a field tour to check on agricultural projects of many cooperative and agricultural societies using reclaimed water, the prime minister was briefed by Minister of Water and Irrigation, Hazen Nasser, on these projects, which contribute to alleviating poverty and unemployment.
Al Mulki sadi the government attaches significant importance to the agricultural sector, especially livestock farmers, through land reclamation and employing modern technologies to use treated wastewater.
The premier noted that the water sector in Jordan was able to deal with major challenges caused by regional crises, in terms of the increased demand on water, and turned it into a success story, in providing a growing and renewable source of water, to be a key factor in improving citizens living standards and achieving many economic benefits.
He explained that adding treated wastewater to the available water supply for agricultural purposes comes in line with the 2016-2025 National Water Strategy in Jordan, through the use of latest systems in the world in collecting and treating sewage water.
The prime minister called on young people to take advantage of these low-cost and income-generating projects.
