(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Haya Water said on Monday that it is executing several wastewater network projects in the Muscat governorate.
The project in Bausher is considered one of the largest wastewater projects that runs from the Hamriya roundabout in Greater Muttrah until Al Mouj Muscat. The project covers the areas of Helat al Saad, Wattayah, Qurm, Madinat al Ilam, Madinat as Sultan Qaboos (MQ), Hay al Sarooj, Al Khuwayr, Ghubra, Azaiba and Azaiba waterfront.
The project comprises the construction of a wastewater network with a total length of about 586km, treated wastewater distribution network with a total length of about 90km and a fibre optic network of about 450km. There are nearly 12,272 residential units, governmental and commercial properties that were connected to the wastewater system until the end of 2016. Eng Said bin Rashid al Asmi, projects general manager, Haya Water, said that work on several phases of the project is being executed parallelly to meet the deadline.
He also spoke about the Al Ansab Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Phase II Expansion Project. 'The capacity of Al Ansab STP will be increased to 125,000m3 per day by the end of 2017. It is also planned to increase the capacity up to 140,000m3 per day by the end of 2020 after the completion of the third phase of expansion.'
Haya Water had completed the first phase in 2010 with a total capacity of 57,300m3 per day. It operates using the bio-reactor membrane technology. Al Ansab STP is considered one of the largest STPs around the world that uses this technology.
Eng Asmi added that Haya Water is currently working on a wastewater project in northern and southern Al Khuwayr (B3b). The project consists of a wastewater network with a total length of 34km, a treated wastewater network with a total length of 12.5km and a fibre optic network with a total length of 39km.
This project will serve 2,650 residential units, governmental and commercial properties. The project will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2018.
He said that work on the wastewater network and treated wastewater network project in MQ (B5) is under way and it will be completed in the third quarter of 2017. The project consists of a wastewater network with a total length of 32km, a treated wastewater network with a total length of 5km and a fibre optic network with a total length of 37km. This project will serve 600 residential units, governmental and commercial properties.
He said that Haya Water is working on the Azaiba Sea Outfall Project too. The aim of this project is to avoid any damages that may occur during emergency in case there is excess wastewater at the main pumping station in Azaiba. This project is very important since it provides protection to environment, society and public and private properties by discharging extra water into the sea in accordance to environmental and health standards that are specified and approved by the concerned authorities. This project starts from central pumping station in Azaiba connecting the sea with a total length of 3.52km (350m on land and 3.17km in the sea). The project is expected to be completed during this year.
Eng Asmi also spoke about future projects in Bausher and said that the company will work to complete wastewater networks in the areas of Al Ansab, Bausher, Ghala, Ghala Industrial Area and South Azaiba and Bausher Village. The project aims to connect 12,000 residential units, government and commercial properties. The project will be floated in 2018. The total length of the wastewater network will be 140km while the total length of the treated wastewater network will be 60km.
In addition, one of the future projects comprises connecting integrated services to approximately 1,800 residential units and government and commercial properties in Al Khuwayr 17/1 and 17/2 by 2020. The total length of the wastewater network will be 66km, the total length of the treated wastewater network will be 8km and the total length of the fibre optic network will be 88km.
Moreover, the company aims to connect 502 residential units, government and commercial properties in Bausher Heights area to its wastewater network by 2020. The total length of the wastewater network will be 23km, the total length of the treated wastewater network will be 5km and the total length of the fibre optic network is 13km.
