(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The ongoing economic gloom it seems didn't come into the picture for those keeping the faith in sharing and caring during Ramadan. The sultanate's one-stop donations portal raised RO252,784.63 during Ramadan this year, the second highest figure for the holy month since the portal's launch in 2009.
While RO67,653 was raised in the first 15 days of Ramadan, the major portion was collected in later half, with donations peaking towards the end of the holy month. Last five days of Ramadan saw a collection of RO100,686.83, while RO21,379.12 was raised in the first five days of the holy month.
Although this year's collection is significant, it falls short of RO290,642 raised in 2014, the highest amount generated thus far during the holy month. Last year, Ramadan was also good for the portal as it received a donation of RO214,365, while in 2015 it was RO173,266. In 2013, it was RO63,311, RO41,561 in 2012 and RO74,336 in 2011.
With a monthly average of a little over RO30,000 before Ramadan, donations picked up with the arrival of the holy month, taking the June total to RO240,508.20.
In July, the amount raised till Wednesday morning was RO9,852.76.
Out of the 26 organisations associated with the portal, the top three charities in terms of donations received in 2017 were the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs - Zakat Division, Oman Charitable Organization and Dar al Atta'a.
The collections for 2017 till Wednesday were RO404,331 and a total of RO2,495,110 since the portal's launch in 2009.
From the annual donation of just RO1,824 in 2009, the collections went up to RO13,128 in 2010 and since 2011 has crossed the RO100,000 mark every year. The portal raised RO111,206 in 2011 and RO111,454 in 2012, while breaking the RO200,000 barrier for the first time in 2013, reaching RO214,669.15. Since 2014, the collections have crossed half million mark and is likely to happen in 2017 as well.
ITA had started its promotional campaign for the portal with the beginning of Ramadan encouraging more people to start using it through the website or the app available on Android or iOS.
