135 Omani firms ready to export food items to Qatar

Around 135 Omani companies have expressed their readiness to export a wide-range of goods, including food items and building materials, to Qatar, which are expected to enter the local market very soon.

This was announced after the successful visit of a high level business delegation from Qatar to Oman.

A number of Omani and Qatari businessmen held bilateral meeting at in Muscat on Tuesday. The meetings focused on discussing ways of enhancing cooperation between the two sides' businessmen and exporting Omani food items and building materials to Qatar, said a press statement issued by Qatar Chamber, yesterday.

The Qatari delegation, which included 140 businessmen, headed by Qatar Chamber's Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Tawar Al Kuwari.

It reviewed investment opportunities available in Qatar and Oman and explored the possibility of forging alliances between Qatari and Omani businessmen as well as establishing joint ventures in Qatar and Oman. The delegation was informed on the Omani products which are of high quality and meets the standards to enter into the Qatari market.

The bilateral meetings also discussed ways to establish partnerships to promote intra-trade and identify Omani products needed by the Qatari market, especially in the food, raw materials and other industries.

On the sidelines of these meeting, the Omani side organised an exhibition for their industries and introduced the Qatari delegation to such industries. About 135 Omani companies highlighted their readiness to supply their products to the Qatari market and gauge the extent to which Qatari traders are interested in importing such goods.

In the coming few days, Omani products will be seen in the Qatari market supported by the launch of two direct shipping routes between Hamad Port and the Omani ports of Sohar and Salalah which would contribute to enhancing the movement of trade between the two countries.

Mohamed bin Tawar said that Qatari businessmen were very interested to visit the Sultanate of Oman to review ways to strengthen relations with their Omani counterparts, assuring their desire to deepen cooperation in investment and business fields.

Addressing the forum, Al Kuwari expressed his appreciation and deep gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and to the people of Oman for their support to Qatar, noting that Qatar and Oman enjoy distinct and developing relations.

He pointed out that both parties are exerting great efforts to strengthen their relations at all sectors, saying that there are lots of mutual investments in both brotherly countries. He also expressed the hope for both sides to increase their partnerships in sectors of trade, industry, transport and food security.

'It's the time to complement one another, he added.

He continued saying that this meeting was being held in exceptional circumstances amid the blockade imposed by three GCC countries, assuring the aspiration of Qatari businessman to build long-term trade relations and partnerships.

'Today's meeting would establish new horizons of economic and trade cooperation between our friendly countries."
