Mali to delay constitutional referendum

(MENAFN) Mali's government confirmed it is delaying the constitutional amendments referendum of July due to a deal was signed in 2015 with northern separatists.

Many people marched in the capital Bamako and more were set for Thursday across the country, and their main subject was the changes.

However, the government released statement saying: "The council of ministers has decided to delay until a future date the referendum initially set for July 9," after a meeting by President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Overall, Mali is struggling to contain militancy in north, where rival militants frequently clash with Islamist groups which attacks civilians.
