UAE- Jumeirah Central project is bold and innovative: paper

DUBAI, 5th September, 2016 (WAM) -- Dubai has always enjoyed a reputation for innovation, creating a world-leading city with far-thinking planning, innovative projects and imaginative architecture underpinned by a belief that it can and will succeed. That same spirit of innovation is ubiquitous in the UAE, and the march of national progress shows that success has always favoured those who reach and embrace the future, the Dubai-based Gulf News said in its editorial today.

But, it continues, there is a reality too that these past months have not been without challenges, where confidence has been subdued and caution has been a watchword to guide businesses and temper the sentiment of investors. Clearly, though, the time has come for that softer sentiment to be pushed to the side lines.

"On Saturday, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, gave his endorsement to the announcement that a huge new project would be undertaken in the heart of Dubai.

"In effect, Jumeirah Central, to be developed on the opposite side of Sheikh Zayed Road to the Mall of the Emirates, will create a new mini-city. It will be home to an estimated 35,000 residents, will have 9 million square feet of retail space, some 35 parks and will add more than 7,000 hotel rooms to current inventories. On any scale, the creation of Jumeirah Central represents a significant project and sign that Dubai, as always, is open for business."

The site had been previously earmarked for the Mall of the World project which is also going ahead, but is being relocated to the Mohamed bin Zayed Road to better address the needs of projects and communities there. Saturday's announcement that the Dubai Holding-led project will go ahead sets in motion a mega development on a scale that highlights why the emirate is up to the challenges of hosting Expo2020.

"Later this week, the annual Cityscape real estate and property exhibition will be held in the city. The announcement of the Jumeirah Central project provides a perfect opportunity now to showcase opportunities and investment possibilities in Dubai and the UAE. The reality is that the very story of Dubai, its growth and its development, is underpinned by the very projects and structures that have been built over the past four decades. Such growth has provided for prosperity and opportunity."

The paper concludes by saying that the Jumeirah Central project, and other planned developments, "are simply the latest chapter in the ongoing story of our growth."
