Oman assured itself of a silver or a bronze medal after it held UAE to a goalless draw to conclude its campaign in the GCC Youth Cup football tournament in Doha, Qatar on Wednesday.

The draw meant that Oman finished with seven points from four games with two wins, one loss and one draw.

The five-team U19 tournament concludes on Friday. Saudi Arabia took the gold after beating Bahrain 3-1 on Wednesday night, having also won its previous two games.

The Saudi Arabians will conclude their tournament campaign with a match against hosts Qatar on Friday.

Oman will know whether it gets a silver or a bronze only after UAE finishes its matches with its final game on Friday against Bahrain, a team that has lost all three of its matches.

UAE has four points from three games. Qatar is fourth with three points from three games and cannot catch up with Oman even if it wins its concluding game.

Coached by Hamad al Azzani, the Oman boys will now have to await the results to know whether they have done enough to win a silver or a bronze. Oman had tasted its first defeat when it was outplayed by Saudi Arabia 0-3 on Monday.

It had won its previous two matches against Bahrain (3-1) and Qatar (1-0). Kuwait is not participating in the tournament as it is suspended from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the FIFA. The biannual tournament is played on a round-robin format.
