Qatar- 23 decisions to raze old buildings in 3 months

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has issued 31 decisions related to maintenance and demolition of old buildings over the past three months.

The decisions were taken by the Buildings Demolition and Maintenance Committee at the ministry based on reports presented by the municipalities where the buildings in question are located.

Nine decisions were issued in June, 10 in July and 12 this month so far. They include 23 decisions on demolition and eight on maintenance, said a statement issued by the ministry yesterday.

The committee set up through ministerial decision No. 88 of 2006 is responsible for taking decision on ramshackle buildings and those which require urgent maintenance after such cases were referred to it by the municipalities concerned.

The committee will also decide whether the building is to be demolished fully or partially based on safety requirements set by the ministry, said the statement.

Since its inception, the committee has issued 296 decisions, including 232 decisions on demolition and 64 on maintenance.

The panel started work on June 19, 2006.
