Video Of Teens Escaping From Casablanca Prison Goes Viral

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) A video that was released yesterday has gone viral, showing Casablanca security forces ambushing and capturing juveniles who had nearly escaped from Oukacha Juvenile Correction and Discipline Prison.

In the video, police are heavily armed, shooting at unidentifiable targets and using riot shields. Many members of the press can be spotted photographing and filming the chaos, loud sirens can be heard, and heavy smoke circulates in front of the prison.

About 30 seconds into the video, a screaming man is lying on the floor and held down by police officers, likely one of the escapees.

According to an article published today by Morocco World News, the attempted escape took place yesterday around midnight, after a group of juvenile inmates set their mattresses on fire to distract guards before they tried to escape.

But they didn't get very far.

Police met some of them at the entrance to the prison, with a few rounds of gunfire and tear gas, deterring them from escaping any further. The teens that hadn't gotten out of the prison yet, remained inside, and were captured by police, arrested on the spot, and handcuffed on the prison lawn. So far, nobody has been seriously injured.

On Morocco World News's Facebook page, people congratulated, thanked, and supported the Moroccan police force.

'Hats off to anyone who stay up and care for the security and peace of Morocco and Moroccans. A million thanks to our police, commando, gendarmerie, auxiliary forces, army and to all forces,' said Abdel Majid.

'Thumbs up to our police, army and gendarmerie for indefatigably ensuring the safety of our streets and borders,' said Suleiman Izmir.
