Rock: Alexandria's famous super dog
Last week, as they walked along Alexandria's historic corniche, a few people heard a barking noise that seemed to be that of a wounded dog. After a few minutes of searching for the source of the sound, the group found that the source was a dog that was in fact trapped under the iconic rocks of the corniche.
Day after day, an increasing number of volunteers relentlessly tried to save the dog from its position and get it back out to the streets. As much as the crowd tried, the dog remained trapped while a number of volunteers worked to supply it with sufficient food and water. A veterinarian also stayed on site to ensure that the dog would be attended to once it was lifted from the rocks.
Yesterday, the dog finally saw daylight for the first time in days after contracting company El-Mokawloon El-Arab sent a crane to the site to lift the stone and free the dog. The government-owned company volunteered to supply the needed equipment after reading about the incident in various publications.
This morning, the dog's new owner shared pictures of the pet safe and sound at its new home. The dog was adopted by one of the volunteers, who named it Rock in remembrance of its survival story.
