(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The General Prosecution renewed Thursday the detention of 19 suspects in recent sectarian strife in North Minya for 15 days as they face charges of committing violence and setting ablaze fourhouses owned by Coptic residents.
The prosecution also ordered the arrest of another 3 suspects.
The violence started this past month between Muslims and Christians in the village of Koum Al-Loufy after a resident circulated a rumour that a new church will be built in the village.
After the violence occurred, the police intervened and arrested dozensof suspects. The governor of Minya ordered religious officials to solve the matter in customary reconciliation sessions.
