(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Moroccan authorities announcedon Tuesdaynight that the Kingdom will celebrate the Muslim holiday of Eid El Fitr on Wednesday.
According to the Moroccan Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, the Moroccan committees in charge of sighting the moon indicating the end of the month of Ramadan confirmed that the new month began on Tuesdaynight. Morocco, which relies on special committees across the country to sight the crescent, started Ramadan a day later than most Muslim countries. As Ramadan drew to a close, the committees were deployed to watch for the moonon Tuesday night. As soon as a committee views the crescent moon, it reports that the month of Ramadan is complete and the next month has begun. Unlike in previous years, Morocco will celebrate Eid El Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on the same day as the overwhelming majority of Muslim countries. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait, all announcedon Mondaynight that Eid El Fitr would be celebratedon Wednesday, although Turkey celebrated the holiday on Tuesday. The sighting of the moon in most Muslim countries coincides with the astronomical calculations and predictions made by the International Astronomical Center. In a press release on its official website, the IAC announced that Eid El Fitr in Muslim countries located in North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia would be celebratedon Wednesday.
