MSMEs need help to improve quality of products they manufacture: QCI

(MENAFN- KNN India) The Quality Council of India (QCI) Chairman Adil Zainulbhai today said that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) require a lot of help to improve the quality of products that they are manufacturing.

He said that right ecosystem and standards needs to be created to provide high quality goods for exports and domestic market.

Addressing the Standard Conclave here today, he said “We recognised that one cannot take a MSME which is on bronze level and goes to platinum level at once. For this it requires a lot of help.”

He said that if the quality standard of the MSMEs is improved, it can help unanimously the Make in India objective of the country. But more importantly it improves the quality of goods and services for our citizens.

The Quality Council of India plans to cover 26,000 MSMEs in the next two years under the Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) model of which 6,000 would be from the defence sector.

“Very large number of companies and MSMEs are in services. We hope to get a similar stepping stone maturity model for the vast number of services provided in India,” said QCI Chairman.

“We are doing the same things for the defence MSMEs. One of the problem is that very high-tech products that are being manufactured for defence and aerospace, that the second and third tier suppliers cannot give them the quality of products that they need. The MSMEs have to go upper level to build a very robust defence industry in India”, he explained.

He also elaborated that MSMEs create incredible number of jobs in India and contribute largely to economy. Two years ago, Prime Minister announced a programme called ‘Zero Effect Zero Defect’, and the ideas is to take a million SMEs in India whose quality is relatively low and systematically help them improve the quality from bronze to platinum level which would then be in line with the quality around the world.
