ANKARA (AA): A Turkish soldier has succumbed to wounds after being caught in a building collapse caused by an attack of the terrorist organization PKK in the southeast of the country, the military said on Thursday.

The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that the soldier was severely injured when a building collapsed after PKK terrorists detonated explosives in the Nusaybin district of Mardin province; he later died in hospital.

Eleven other soldiers were also hurt, the statement added.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, more than 500 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and over 4,900 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
