H E Yu Fulong, China's Ambassador to Oman, announced the issuance of the country's first document on its relationship with Arab states.

He was speaking at a press briefing organised at the Chinese Embassy last week ahead of the seventh ministerial meeting at the China-Arab Cooperation Forum held in Doha on Thursday.

H E Fulong said, 'Earlier this year, the Chinese government released its first Arab Policy Paper. It is an important programme and action guide for the development of China-Arab state relations. 'The document titled, 'The Belt and Road Initiative: A Great Opportunity for Deepening China-Arab Strategic Cooperative Relations', underpins the strong political trust between China and Arab states.'

He added, 'China has consistently supported Arab states in their quest for development, suited to their respective national conditions and their struggle to restore the legitimate rights of the Arab nations, especially the establishment of an independent state of Palestine. Arab states have rendered China precious support on issues of core interests and major concerns.'

He said the first Arab Policy Paper will help build trust and encourage mutually beneficial cooperation, encourage mutual cultural exchanges, enhance communication and coordination for peace and stability, align development strategies to deepen practical cooperation and engage in inter-civilisation dialogue to draw on each other's strengths.'

The China-Arab Cooperation Forum was established in 2004 as a mechanism for collective cooperation aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation between China and member states of the Arab League and partnership between the two sides in various political, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.

This year, China has issued the first document on its relationship with the Arab countries. The document has become an important approach and a reference for developing Chinese-Arab relations.

While the Arab countriesarekey partners for Chinese cooperation in the field of energy and one of the major markets for construction and engineering, China is the second biggest trade partner for Arab countries in general and the number one trade partner for ten Arab countries. The two sides agreed to sign the Free Trade Agreement this year. They also agreed to open the Chinese-Arab Center for Technology Transfer and cooperation on operating the BGIDO system for satellite navigation.
