Court adjourns appeal decision for 6 April coordinator to 25 June
(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) On Saturday, the Al-Marg Misdemeanour Court adjourned former 6 April Youth Movement general coordinator Amr Ali's appeal case to 25 June.
The court previously convicted Ali and another three defendants to 3-year prison sentences and ordered the defendants to pay fines of EGP 500.
Ali, who previously worked as the coordinator for the now banned 6 April movement, has been charged with illegal protest, instigating violence, resisting arrest, membership in an illegal group, calling for the suspension of the Egyptian Constitution, terrorism, and attempting to overthrow the regime.
Security forces arrested Ali from his home in September 2015. Following his arrest, Ali's location remained unknown for days until he later appeared in Tora Prison.
The controversial protest law was issued in November 2013 by then interim president Adly Mansour to deter weekly violent clashes between security forces and Muslim Brotherhood supporters. However, the law has been used to build cases against political activists and opposition figures.
