Samsung tops Korean firms in job cuts over 2015

(MENAFN) Samsung Group, South Korea's biggest corporation reduced its number of employees by the largest margin among the nation's top 30 business groups through the previous year.

As of end-2015, the behemoth's overall workforce touched a total of 222,821 workers, deteriorating 5.8 percent or 13,636 workers from a year earlier, according to the latest data.

In more detail, such a large cut was partly due to a landmark contract, in which Samsung handed over four defense and chemical units to Hanwha Group, along with their 5,000 plus employees.

Additionally, the nation's youth joblessness rate hit 11.8pct in March, down from an all-time high of 12.5pct logged in the prior month but still marking the highest reading for March in the country's history.
