Morocco's Poultry Sector Overcame Influenza H9N2 Crisis: Official


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The Poultry Sector succeeded in overcoming the avian influenza H9N2 and reached self-sufficiency in terms of producing white meat and eggs said on Saturday in Nouaceur agriculture minister Aziz Akhannouch.

Speaking at a meeting initiated by the poultry inter-professional federation the minister said that the generalization of vaccines in poultry breeding helped to limit the impact of avian influenza H9N2 reassuring consumers that this disease does not affect humans.

Recalling that the poultry industry generates a turnover of over 30 billion dirhams in annual average with a production of over 560000 tons of white meat the minister described the sector’s current situation as “stable” and “healthy”.

The poultry sector is growing at a steady pace thanks to evolution of consumption the minister said. Akannouch explained that Moroccans have contributed to the industry’s development through an annual per capita consumption of around 18 kg in 2015 against 16 kg a year earlier.
