Morocco Pushes to Modernize Public Transport System: OBG


(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Morocco is pushing to modernize its public transport system by launching projects to improve connectivity and mobility as part of a strategy to meet the needs of rapid urbanization the Oxford Business Group says.

As more than 60 pc of Moroccans now live in cities the government is sharpening its focus on improving urban infrastructure with Casablanca the country’s largest city and its commercial centre a major beneficiary of the renewed attention OBG points out in a note.

The push to modernise the city’s transport systems will be rolled out under the 2015-20 Casablanca Strategic Development Plan OBG notes adding that this strategy supports a broader push to improve urban living standards by boosting socioeconomic inclusion connectivity and mobility in terms of both time and cost.

In addition to improving the daily life of residents of Casablanca the strategy aims to encourage economic development and investment by boosting the city’s competitiveness as a growing international financial hub it adds.

Almost 2.49bn of the five-year plan’s total budget of 3.1bn has been set aside for projects aimed at improving mobility according to the same source.
