During the segment Kathy Ireland interviewed Vice President and Co-Founder Coleman Tharpe and President and Co-Founder Juan Garcia.
Juan Garcia discussed the impact on student interaction in class if the class content is not interactive and engaging. He said "Quite simply if students are not engaged then they are not learning. We see the real need to have students playing with things they are more familiar with in the classroom. Already in higher education today students are digital natives. It's the students that have grown up using digital devices their whole lives. So when they get into a classroom where something is static stagnant it's not moving they can't engage with it and there is no interactivity it's not a really stellar learning experience for them."
Coleman Tharpe commented on how their app-based textbooks provide a better learning experience for students. He said "With a new generation of students that are coming up through primary school and secondary school and then higher education they were born into a world that has already been colonized by digital technology. They are familiar with the moving image and the rich media experience. To a different degree lifelong learners and adult learners who are familiar with the transition from network to cable and then to streaming television they know that they can get whatever kind of content that they want at any time. An app-based model marries the practices of really good solid instruction design and top quality content with a rich media experience. There is greater engagement with that content."
