Jordan looks to cloud seeding to augment precipitation

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman March 13 (Petra) -- The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Sunday it has ended preparations to conduct the first rainmaking experiment using Thai technology following the signing of a memo between Jordan and the south-east Asian nation.

Jordanian and Thai experts are scheduled to gather on 23th of March to carry out the cloud seeding process in the vicinity of the King Talal Dam to increase water levels in the reservoir.

The Kingdom says the experiment is aimed at facing climate change challenges through finding creative and cheaper solutions to increase the amount of precipitation which would be made possible by applying the artificial rain making method.

The importance of rainmaking lies in increasing the fresh water to meet the growing demands for potable water Samawi added.
