JAKARTA March 5 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation's (OIC) Fifth Extraordinary Summit on Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif will begin in the Indonesian capital Jakarta Sunday with the participation of various world leaders.
Representative of His Highness the Amir sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah will partake in the conference.
The summit called upon by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will focus on the situation in the Middle East and will touch on efforts to achieve a just solution to the Palestinian cause.
The event will also address the Israeli violations against the Palestinian people in general and Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem in particular.
The increase in settlement activities and the dire economic situation of the Palestinians will also be touched upon during the event.
Last October Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Foreign Affairs Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah stressed in an urgent meeting for the OIC on the sideline of the 70th UN General Assembly that the international community should take a more active role in preventing Israel from continuing its aggression against the Palestinians.
He stressed that the Palestinians have the right for an independent state within the 1967 borders with east Jerusalem as its capital.
Indonesia hosted on December 14-15 the second international conference on Al-Quds Al-Sharif which was held under the sponsorship of the UN. (end) rkf.gta
