DOHA: Two local charitable organizations have come forward to provide physiological support to Syrian children living in refugee camps.

Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and Abdullah Abdul Ghani Foundation for Cross-Cultural Understanding “Hadara” have readied 10000 school satchels containing books of short stories and pamphlets in Arabic language. The initiative aims to provide psychological support to the children affected by the ongoing conflict in Syria and help them imbibe social values.

Reports posted on the websites of some global charities suggest that Syrian refugee children need psychosocial support as some of them suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

There is a lack of necessary resources to address the needs of a staggering number of traumatized children.

“RAF gave priority to the issues of children in refugee camps by providing them psychological and educational support” said Ali bin Yousuf Al Kuwari Director of Public Relation Department of RAF.

Children represent half of the refugee population affected by the war in their home country they are the weakest segments of society and most deserving people for such initiatives said Al Kuwari.

He was speaking at a joint press conference organized by RAF and Hadara here yesterday.

“Hadara has published two famous books for children to be distributed as part of its ‘school bags initiative’” said Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Abdul Ghani.

One of them is entitled Al Janna Ajmal (the paradise is more beautiful) written by a famous scribe of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Mawza Al Jaberi.

The book has been translated into 12 languages. The second book is entitled “Tasali”. This book will not only provide knowledge to children but it will focus on other aspects like religion behaviour and morality. The Peninsula
