Kuwait- Parliament strongly condemns MP's offending remarks about Riyadh


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT March 1 (KUNA) -- The National Assembly reiterated Tuesday its strong condemnation and denouncement of any degrading and offending remarks practices or policies whether direct or indirect that threatens the sovereignty and stability of GCC countries particularly Saudi Arabia.
The Assembly strongly condemns recent remarks made by MP Abdulhameed Dashti about Saudi Arabia and Bahrain on more than one occasion that conflicted with Kuwait's supreme interest and directions the Assembly said in a statement during today's regular session which included a two-hour discussion on Dashti's remarks about the two Gulf countries.
It also called on the government to take all urgent legal measures toward such insults in order to put an end for them and prevent their recurrence in the future and provide the Assembly (parliament) with latest developments and updates regarding the steps and measures to be taken that would help in bolstering close ties among Gulf countries.
The parliamentary statement also highlighted the Kuwaiti-Saudi "solid and historic" ties stressing the importance of preserving the national unity as Kuwait's shield in light of ongoing changes and political transformations in the region.
It also reiterated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's keenness in consolidating all charters that link Kuwait with the rest of GCC countries.
Meanwhile Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim reiterated the Parliament's "honorable" stand towards any insulting remarks against Riyadh and GCC states confirming that only his own statements represent the Parliament and not those by another MP.
Al-Ghanim also said during the two-hour discussion that the Kuwaiti Parliament was honored to receive a call by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz in an unprecedented step in which he praised and confirmed the depth of Saudi-Kuwaiti ties.
There are those who are pushed by political goals and agendas and attempt to mislead the Kuwaiti people about the reality of the close relationship between Kuwait and the Kingdom Al-Ghanim said reiterating the Parliament's total rejection and condemnation of whatever harms GCC countries.
He also recalled His Highness the Amir's speech prior to the inauguration of the current parliamentary term which refused any insult or offense against Saudi Arabia and GCC states adding that he has personally conveyed His Highness's remarks to MP Dashti who in return pledged to His Highness the Amir not to offend any Gulf country.
