Clashes kill 23 rebels, 2 policemen in Afghanistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD Feb 22 (KUNA) -- At least 23 rebels and two policemen lost their lives in separate security incidents in different parts of Afghanistan said officials on Monday.A statement from Silab Military Corps office in eastern zone claimed that six militants were killed during an ongoing operation in Nangarhar.In another incident at least two policemen were killed during a militants' ambush in Khan village of Shah Joy district in Zabul said Wazir Mohammad the district chief.Moreover a statement from the Police headquarter said that 17 Taliban rebels have been killed and 20 others wounded during a clash in the Dasht-i-Archi district of Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province.However according to local media Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that Afghan security forces have attacked the Taliban positions in the locality and 12 security officials were killed in the group's counter attack.The clashes came a day before the fourth meeting of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) in Afghan capital Kabul on February 23 including representatives from Afghanistan Pakistan China and the United States to revive the Afghan peace process.
