Qatari min.: electric power usage key to successful development


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) DOHA Feb 22 (KUNA) -- The rate of using electric power is a main part of development success in societies which look forward to building partnerships so as to upgrade standards of living of their nations said Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammad bin Saleh Al-Sadah.The minister made the remark on Monday while inaugurating the conference of electric power and water desalination in Arab countries.He added that choosing energy sources used for producing electricity has a great impact on financing development and its sustainability and connects with stability at oil markets as their prices affect the cost of producing electricity.Producing electricity in Qatar depends on 100 percent of natural gas the cleanest source of energy and the country will develop the production in the future form solar energy he said.Qatar has implemented a national program depending on rationalizing consumption that made progresses in managing the country's resources he said adding that the program reduced the consumption of electricity by 14 percent and 17 percent of water per capita until December 2015. The conference discusses topics on water and irrigation as they have strategic significance across the globe especially in the Arab world as they connect with the concept of water and food security he noted.The proportion of water per capita will drop to 50 percent by 2050 at a time when Arab countries record the highest percentage of water consumption in the world he made clear.The two-day event discusses on several issues including the environmental impact of the operations of the generation and distribution of electricity and drinking water power plants economies awareness and rationalization of production and use of electricity current reality and future prospects of power plants water security strategy and techniques of water desalination in Arab countries.The conference seeks to exchange ideas between engineering unions and associations in the Arab countries and benefit from the experiences and lessons learned through the presentation of Arab countries' experiences in this area.
