Two suicide bombers attack district on Damascus' outskirts killing 83


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN Feb 21 (KUNA) -- Bombers set off booby-trapped vehicles and blew themselves up in Al-Sayeda Zeinab district on outskirts of the Syrian capital on Sunday claiming up to 83 lives Syrian police said.
The police cited by the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said that in addition to the deaths scores of people were wounded when two suicide bombers set off two cars packed with explosives in the district. When people rushed to the scene to aid the victims the bombers blew themselves up amid the crowd thus increasing the casualty toll.
A police source said up to 178 people were wounded. Majority of the injured some in critical condition were rushed to nearby hospitals. A medical source at Al-Mujtahed Hospital said most of the casualties who were admitted were elderly children and women.
The district witnessed on 31st of the past month an identical attack that took life of 45 peoples.
Meanwhile Talal Al-Barazi the Governor of the Syrian town Homs where two car bomb blasts took place earlier today said the death toll climbed to 39. (end) tk.rk
