Top British school to open in Doha

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) King's College, a 135-year-old prestigious boarding school from the UK, is to open King's College, Doha (KCD), a British international school, for children aged 3 to 11 years in September this year.
The announcement was made at a ceremony at the British embassy.
The Supreme Education Council of Qatar has recognised King's College as an "outstanding school" and admissions for the academic year 2016/17 are now open to pupils between the ages of 3 and 8 (UK Curriculum Pre-School through to Year 4).
British ambassador Ajay Sharma hosted the launch with KCD sponsor and chairman Sheikh Mansoor bin Jassim bin Thani al-Thani, Ministry of Education and Higher Education's Private School Affairs Institute assistant director Aysha al-Hashemi, KCD headmaster Nicholas Gunn and his counterpart from the UK, Justin Chippendale.
Ambassador Sharma said: "A British education is seen as among one of the best in the world and I am pleased to be able to support the opening of a great British school here in Doha. "
Sheikh Mansoor said KCD will offer an environment that encourages all children to be understanding and tolerant of others, whilst developing the self-confidence to be a creative and responsible member of society.
The school's daily programme of activities, based on the King's British curriculum, will be delivered by highly qualified, UK-trained teachers and highly skilled teachers of Arabic and Islamic studies.
Children at KCD will also be offered a wide range of co-curricular activities - including music, sport, art, design, drama, English language learning, technology and communications.
Specialist subject teachers rather than general form teachers will provide core subject teaching from as early as Year 3 and for all subjects from Year 5.
KCD is located between Najma Street and the E Ring Road in Al Thumama. The buildings are being "totally transformed to create a contemporary, bright and inspirational teaching and learning environment. KCD upon completion will house some of the finest kindergarten and primary school facilities in Qatar."
