DOHA: The University of Calgary in Qatar’s (UCQ) annual International Day festival will be held on Saturday featuring 22 countries.

The event is open to the public and will host students faculty and staff. Entering its fourth year the tradition aims to enrich students’ learning experience by inviting members of UCQ and the wider community to learn about each other and the world.

The event will be attended by guests including Adrian Norfolk Canadian Ambassador to Qatar who welcomed the opportunity to engage with members of UCQ’s international community. “Our campus in Qatar has been exceptionally diverse with respect to those who learn and teach since our first International Day three years ago which brought together community members from a large and always expanding group of nations” said Dr Kim Critchley Dean and CEO UCQ. “Qatar attracts talent from all corners of the globe providing students with an education that equips them to positively contribute to society. We are proud to be part of this process having seen the impact our graduates have had on the country’s evolving healthcare sector.”

Events like this not only expose members of the UCQ community to unique perspectives but also point to similarities between cultures. Such exchange is crucial for nursing students who will care for patients from across the world during their careers. International Day complements formal training UCQ provides and reflects a holistic approach to education.

“This year is the fourth time I am participating in International Day. It gives me a chance to find out more about my peers while meeting students and teachers I have not come across before” said Sara Al Qahtani a fourth-year nursing student at UCQ. “It also gives us an opportunity to introduce the wider community to what we do at UCQ and how nursing relates to Qatar’s development goals.”

UCQ welcomes the local community to attend International Day from 12.30pm to 5.30pm at its campus on Furousiya Street near Al Rayyan Racing and Equestrian Club.
