Jordan- PM Kuwaiti army chief discuss ties regional turmoil


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Feb 7 (Petra)Prime Minister and Defence Minister Abdullah Ensour Sunday discussed with a Kuwaiti delegation led by Chief of Staff of the Kuwaiti armed forces Lt. Gen. Mohammad Khaled Al Khader aspects of cooperation between Jordan and the Gulf Arab state in various fields.

During the meeting attended by the chief of strategic planning of the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army Ensour stressed the close Jordanian-Kuwaiti ties and the Kingdom's interest to further cement cooperation. He commended Kuwait's support to Jordan noting that the Gulf Arab state was prompt in paying its share of a Gulf grant to Jordan.

"Jordan thanks and appreciates Kuwait's stance not only for assisting Jordan in bearing the burden of hosting Syrian refugees but also for its historic positions in support of the Kingdom in all fields" added the premier.

He said Jordan had shouldered additional burdens that far exceeded its capacity when it received waves of Palestinian refugees and faced other migrations the last of which was the influx of refugees from Syria which had put pressure on the economy and strained the infrastructure tourism health education and other sectors.

He pointed out that Jordan had received 1.3 million displaced Syrians half of them were in the Kingdom before the crisis began and had become refugees being unable to return home.

Speaking about the repercussions of regional conflicts on neighbouring countries the prime minister said Jordan had to modify many of its plans and programmes in various sectors due to the turmoil.

The Kuwaiti army chief pointed to the "distinguished" Jordanian-Kuwaiti ties praising the leadership in both countries for their keenness to further boost cooperation and enhance regional security and stability. He said that Kuwait's borders like Jordan's borders were under pressure and also needed tight security measures.
