For the first time the Oman tennis Association (OTA) has decided to field teams at top-level junior competitions.

The OTA in its first step towards providing quality exposure and experience to the age-group teams (U14 and U16) has named two squads of three players each for the forthcoming Junior Davis Cup and the ITF World Junior Competition.

Abdullah al Raisi

Confirming the development Salman al Balushi the OTA's executive manager told Muscat Daily on Tuesday 'This is the first time that we have decided to send our boys for the Junior Davis Cup and the world junior team event.'

Abdullah al Barwani Zakariya al Suleimani and Ammar Khanjari will form the U16 team for the Junior Davis Cup pre-qualifying event in Colombo Sri Lanka. Suleiman al Rawahi will be the accompanying nonplaying captain.

The tournament will be held from March 11-16. The final round of the qualifiers will be held in New Delhi India from April 4-9.

Marwan al Khanjari

The U14 team for the ITF World Junior Team Competition comprises Muneer al Rawahi Abdullah al Raisi and Marwan al Khanjari.

Nabeel Dob of Algeria will accompany the team as its coach. That event will also be held in Colombo from March 3-8.

Oman has named a two-member team that comprises Maryam al Balushi and Aisha al Suleimani for the Junior Fed Cup pre-qualifiers also to be played in Colombo.

Meanwhile sources said that Oman has initially missed the deadline for the submission of the entries for the Junior Fed Cup/Junior Davis Cup and World Junior Team competitions.
