(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Cairo January 20 (QNA) - The Arab League has welcomed European Union (EU) opposition to expanding illegal Jewish settlements in Palestine.
Arab League's Assistant Secretary General Dr. Saeed Abu Ali said that "the Arab league welcomes the EU's opposition to Israel's settlement policy." The Arab League is grateful for this monumental step that the EU has taken to ensure the authority and legitimacy of international law Abu Ali said.
The EU's opposition further affirms the illegitimacy of Jewish settlements that need to end since international conventions have deemed them unlawful he added.
Abu Ali also acknowledged European efforts as being the most potent in bringing an end to the Palestinian conflict.EU on Monday called for a "fundamental change of policy by Israel" with regard to occupied Palestinian territories.(QNA)
