Abu Dhabi and Japan discuss maximising energy efficiency solutions

ABU DHABI17th January 2016 (WAM) -- Held under the patronage of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company ADNOC the Abu Dhabi-Japan Energy Efficiency Improvement Forum kicked off today at the Sheikh Khalifa Energy Complex in Abu Dhabi.

The forum aims to showcase the global leading practices in the energy efficiency landscape especially exploring the Japanese experience in this domain as well as to share best practices in energy efficiency and explore avenues for further collaboration on implementation of energy efficiency technologies and measures in the UAE.

Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi CEO of ADNOC and Yosuke Takagi State Minister of Economy Trade and Industry MITI Japan inaugurated the forum in the presence of senior managers experts and executives from the ADNOC Group of Companies and their counterparts from Japanese companies.

In his keynote speech at the forum Abdalla Nasser Al Suwaidi said "We meet at a time of a profound shift in the global energy market. The global energy demand is set to grow putting more pressure on the global energy and environmental systems. These challenges mandate that we unite our efforts and to find more innovative and sustainable solutions to improve energy efficiency at our operating sites homes buildings schools and the community at large. Saving energy and using it more efficiently has a direct impact on climate change reducing emissions increasing profitability and boosting local economy "As a key energy player ADNOC is at the heart of this strategy considering energy efficiency as a key strategic priority. ADNOC has developed and implemented many energy efficiency initiatives across its group of companies. From carbon dioxide capturing and injection to cutting flaring levels working towards achieving zero water discharge to developing an integrated operational excellence strategy."

On his part Yosuke Takagi State Minister of Economy Trade and Industry of Japan delivered a speech in which he commended cooperation between Japan and the UAE in various domains particularly in the energy efficiency field stressing the importance of adopting an enhanced energy saving and reducing consumption solutions and the use of renewable energy sources in order to protect the Earth and to reduce environmental pollution and climate change.

"The UAE today has embarked on a solid path to energy sustainability with a determined vision to achieve energy security while delivering unprecedented levels of efficiency Takagi said.

During the forum representatives from leading Japanese companies will deliver several presentations on energy savings techniques energy consumption trends and how the UAE can develop comprehensive energy efficiency systems in the power sector buildings and smart cities etc. among others.
