(MENAFN- Arab Times) Director General of the 59th Beirut International Arab Book Fair Fadi Tamim commended as impressive the presence of Kuwaiti publishers at the event.
Kuwait's participation in the fair is indicative of the country's desire to Arab cultural interaction, he told KUNA after the opening ceremony Friday night.
Tamim noted that the pavilions of Kuwaiti publishers at the annual event are usually eye-catching for the visitors of the fair, particularly the Lebanese book lovers.
"The Kuwaiti books provide the readers with invaluable knowledge," he said, reaffirming commitment of the fair organizers to continue this annual chain despite the ongoing difficulties in Lebanon and turmoil in the region.
"For the first time, this edition of the fair includes a digital pavilion that showcases a variety of electronic contents, including a new mobile application," Tamim pointed out.
He added that the application features a detailed guideline of the fair, the publishers and exhibits from various countries.
On her part, Financial and Administrative Director of the Center for Research and Studies on Kuwait Fawziya Al-Raqm said the center is keen on annual participation in the Beirut fair out of belief in its message to promote culture and knowledge about Kuwait.
"The pavilion of the center at this year's fair showcases 30 publications on Kuwait's history, geography and heritage," she revealed.
In a statement to KUNA, Samya Al-Failakawi, supervisor of the pavilion of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), said more than 100 KFAS publications are on display at the pavilion this year.
"These include scientific encyclopedia, books and publications on a host of scientific subjects," she added.
Ihab Shebib, supervisor of Afaq Bookstore's pavilion, said the bookstore's exhibits this year deal, inter alia, with historical, geographical, social, religious, educational, economic and political issues as well as novels written by Kuwaiti playwrights.
The fair, to last until Dec 10, was inaugurated by Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam.
