Kuwait Oil Company eager to play leading role in renewable energy


(MENAFN- Arab Times) Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), a subsidiary of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), is eager to play a leading role in the renewable energy domain, said an official Wednesday. Speaking to KUNA, KOC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Emad Sultan said the company will work with government bodies to pursue more options with in the renewable energy sector.

Regarding KOC's efforts in this regard, the official noted that KOC will host Kuwait sustainable energy conference, next Sunday, under the slogan (achieving Kuwait's energy vision for 2030). The event is organized by the KOC in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR).

The conference will aim at contributing to Kuwait's plans to increase energy supplies by 15 percent in 2030 and also to focus on spreading awareness on the necessity of sustainable development, said Sultan. An exhibition will be held on sidelines of the event for oil experts and companies to exchange views and expertise on sustainable and renewable energy, said the official. Furthermore, Kuwait's Public Authority for Industry (PAI) and the Arabic-language Kuwaiti daily newspaper "Al- Anbaa," were granted the Pan Arab Application Awards, at an event held by the Excellence Awards Academy in conjunction with the Arab Organization for Social Responsibility.

Gratitude
Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Al-Anbaa Adnan Al- Rashid expressed his happiness for earning the award in magazine and newspapers' category. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the United Arab Emirates and the organizers of the event. On his side, the Director of Information and Decision Support Center at the Public Authority for Industry, Ahmad Sadiq Mohammad Sadiq, expressed his happiness in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) for winning the golden award under the name "Pan Arab for the best application on smart phones," for the best application on the smart systems in Kuwait. He said that win is added to a series of accomplishments achieved by the authority, pointing out that this would have irect impact on advancement of the industrial sector in Kuwait.

Meanwhile, Kuwait is set to participate in the first international conference on science, technology and creativity to be held in Mongolia on Thursday, to discuss the recent developments in the field. The conference will include workshops and seminars on developing science and technology, share experience in the field, support development plans and means of facing difficulties, member of the Supreme Council for Privatization and Kuwait's representative at the event Salah Al-Mazidi told KUNA on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, he noted that Kuwait will present its experience in supporting development and its view on using knowledge economy and encouraging creativity. He added that the conference will honor prominent scientists and researchers in different scientific fields. Al-Mazidi also said that Kuwait and Mongolia share strong economic, scientific and cultural ties, as Kuwait has contributed to establish the Kuwaiti-Mongolian scientific center, as well as the cooperation between Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) and Mongolian scientific institutes.
