UAE martyr made one last call to wife sister before he died

Martyr Obaid Saeed Khalifa Al Shamsi had his best days just like any other Emirati citizen.

He was a big fan of the bedouin simple life and its values loved greenery and enjoyed days of spring when weather gets nicer.

The 28-year-old serviceman was born at the Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed neighbourhood of the Sohaila area in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah but later moved to Al Dheit area where he got married.

A peaceful young man with a pure heart that's how the relatives described Al Shamsi who was martyred in the Marib province of Yemen on the September 4 offensive which claimed 50 servicemen.

The martyr's death was yet another shock to the family who were bereaving his sister's death two months earlier.

Father of the martyr 60-year-old Saeed Khalifa Al Shamsi said his last telephone conversation with the martyr was on September 3 the day before his death.

"My dear son used to talk to all family members and told us that everything was fine and all his fellows were in good condition."

He called again on Friday the same day of his martyrdom and talked to his elder sister around 6am the father added.

"He finally talked to his wife but the call was abruptly disconnected possibly due to the blast which killed him." His last will to the family was to build a mosque close to his house family added.

Mohammed Salem Al Shamsi a relative of the martyr said he knew him for over a quarter century since his childhood.

"He was a so kind decent disciplined well-mannered and peaceful man."

The martyr was so attracted to camels and he had competed in so many races and won a golden sword in one of these four years ago he added.

"Every one of us is missing him so much but we are all proud of what he bravely did for his country and nation."
