Tunisia- Arab MoIs mull code of conduct to foster human rights

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Representatives of the Arab ministries of interior (MoIs) and national human rights organizations called Tuesday for the adoption of unbinding code of conduct and unified mechanism to bolster human rights in the Arab region.
In a press statement, the Secretary General of Arab Interior Ministers Council Dr. Mohammad bin Ali Koman urged more effective Arab cooperation to enhance security and human rights situation.
He stressed security agencies and human rights organizations are required to expand their partnership to safeguard security and stability as well as respect people's dignity and human rights.
The Arab interior ministers have prepared a draft code of conduct to promote good governance, and counter corruption, he said.
Koman underlined the need for putting into effect the recommendation of the international conference on the challenges of security and human rights in the Arab region, held last year in the Qatari capital of Doha.
For his part, Tunisian Interior Minister Najem Gharsalli called for countering systematical violation of human rights and encroachments upon people's rights regardless of the perpetrators.
Police personnel should strike a delicate balance between law enforcement and respect of human rights, he said.
Gharsalli reiterated the demand for forming a joint team of experts with the United Nations Development Programme to formulate a draft code of conduct for security agencies personnel.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Tunis-based Arabic Network for Human Rights Information Mousa Burayzat urged an Arab mechanism for monitoring and bringing to accountability law enforcers who breach human rights of the defendants and suspects.
Burayzat recommended demanding every Arab country to issue a detailed annual report about the measures taken to reform judiciary and security agencies, protect journalists and fight graft and torture.
