UAE journalist injured in Yemen healing well

Saleh Ali one of the two journalists from Abu Dhabi TV injured during his coverage on the conflict in Yemen on Tuesday remains in a stable condition in the UAE's capital.

Ali who is a correspondent from the state-owned television channel suffered minor injuries along with photojournalist Yasser Adnan.

On Tuesday evening Khaleej Times tried to get an interview with him regarding the attack in Yemen from the hospital where Saleh Ali is currently recovering but military security from the hospital notified the newspaper that no interviews are permitted unless Army Military Media as well as the brigadier granted permission.

Khaleej Times was however able to visit the patient but there was no interview or camera crew. The injured correspondent with a bandage around his head appeared in good health and was surrounded by family and friends. Despite his difficult situation and injuries he was still able to pull a smile and laugh.

Mohammed Al Mahmoud Chairman and Managing Director of the Abu Dhabi Media Company gave a statement on Tuesday noting that ensuring the health and safety of staff is a priority.

"We are determined to maintain a professional line and exercise responsibilities towards the nation and society by conveying the truth and coverage of the achievements of the Arab coalition forces in Yemen" he said. He pointed out that coverage on Yemen would remain to take place. "We will continue to cover the role of the UAE armed forces within the Arab coalition forces led by Saudi Arabia to restore legitimacy to Yemen."

"Our technical crew will stay put to cover the latest developments and victories on the ground" added Al Mahmoud.

Since the Arab coalition which began in March a vast majority of southern Yemen including Aden - where the correspondent and photojournalist were injured has been recaptured from the Houthis. The UAE forces however have been continuingly determined to drive the Houthis out.

Despite the progress in restoring Yemen many soldiers from the UAE as well as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have fallen in line of duty. In total 65 soldiers from the UAE have been martyred since the coalition of Operation Restoring Hope.
