Jordan operates first wind powered electricity plant


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordan announced here on Sunday the opening of its first wind powered electricity plant at the capacity of 117 megawatts with the cost of USD 287 million.

Wind Project Company Chairman Samer Judeh told the press that the power plant, which contributes about three percent of the total energy production in Jordan, started feeding the public electricity network.

Judeh expected this project to reduce second carbon dioxide emission by 235,000 tons annually.

Several local and international bodies contributed to the financing of the projects which includes 38 huge turbines with a generating capacity of 3 megawatts for each turbine.

Jordan depends currently on liquefied gas, heavy fuel, and diesel in order to generate 4,000 megawatts with a maximum electrical load of 33,00 megawatts.
