Asia Pacific Amateur Championship: Omani golfers set for HK event


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Azaan al Rumhy and Ali Hameed Oman's top two golfers will represent the sultanate in the forthcoming Asia Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) which will be held at the Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club in Hong Kong from October 1-4.

Leading players from the 39 Asia Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) affiliated organisations that includes Oman will compete in the event. The Oman Golf Committee (OGC) became an APGC member in early 2014.

Each nation is provided with two positions which are to be filled by their highest-ranked players from the World Amateur Golf Ranking as of August 6 2015.

Organised by the APGC the Masters Tournament and The R&A the AAC offers the winner an invitation to the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. The champion and runner-up earn spots in the Open Qualifying Series for the Open.

In the last edition held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia Oman was represented by Azaan and Hamood al Harthy.

Mundhir al Barwani the OGC chairman and Ahmed al Jhdhamy the OGC's vice-chairman hoped that the two golfers would come up with their best at the premier amateur championship.
