Qatar- Drug smuggling attempt foiled at airport
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The General Authority of Customs (GAC) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 5kg of marijuana into the country.
The contraband was found after a GAC officer became suspicious about a passenger, who had arrived at Doha's Hamad International Airport (HIA) from an Asian country, and decided to conduct a thorough search of his luggage.
The marijuana was found wrapped within some foodstuff inside the passenger's luggage.
Ajab Mansur al-Qahtani, director of HIA Customs, said the alert officer felt the passenger was acting strangely which aroused his suspicion. Further, the director stressed that the efficiency of the cadre was responsible for the seizure, in addition to having state-of-the-art equipment.
