UAE- Bid to smuggle 6kg heroin foiled


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)A 20-year-old Asian has been arrested in Dubai for attempting to smuggle over 6kg of heroin worth Dh3 million out of the country.

According to Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri Commander-in -Chief of the Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation the suspect was arrested on August 26.

The police received a tip-off that the suspect had managed to smuggle the drugs into the country and would try to smuggle it out. The police raided his apartment and truck in Al Awir area and recovered three plastic bags and a carton containing the drugs.

Colonel Eid Mohammed Thani Director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics said the suspect had hidden one of the bags in a secret compartment in the rear seat of his truck.

The suspect who was working for a transportation company reportedly confessed to smuggling the heroin on instructions from an Asian man living abroad.
