Saudi- Jeddah Eve teasing

(MENAFN- Arab News) This is with reference to the report 'Three youths charged in girls' harassment case' (Sept. 2). The video showing the unruly behavior of those young men had left me speechless. Those men should be punished as their behavior was completely un-Islamic. The problem is that when one asks such people as to why do they harass women in the streets they come up with a very stupid answer which goes something like this: 'Why did they come outside alone? They asked for it etc.'
This phenomenon is not unique to Saudi Arabia. Eve teasing has become a global issue. Even countries in the West are also faced with gender crimes. Men are supposed to protect womenfolk.
People who indulge in such outrageous behavior don't realize that by harassing a woman they don't become more masculine. Truth be told such men are a blot on mankind.
Coming back to the incident reported in Jeddah I would like to add that the Muslim youth should be mindful of the fact that their actions are (unjustifiably) linked to their religion these days. They should act in a dignified manner according to the teachings of Islam. Tariq Jamal
