US- Middle East powers can send ground troops to Syria: Kerry

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, said he is confident Middle East powers would send troops to help defeat the Daesh group in Syria.

In an interview late Wednesday with CNN, Kerry said ground forces eventually will be needed in the fight against Daesh.

He expected that when the time is right some of Syria's neighbors would step up.

"There will need to be people on the ground, as I am convinced there will be at the appropriate moment," he said.

"We need to increase the pressure on them," Kerry said, adding that specific ways to do that in concert with other countries in the area are being discussed.

There will need to be people on the ground," Kerry said, though he did not say whether they would be U.S. forces. "I am convinced there will be at the appropriate moment. And I believe that that pressure will increase and is increasing even as we're talking about in many different ways."

Kerry did not say which countries might be persuaded to take part in a ground operation.
